Tree Portraits
So I like trees...a lot... To me my work is a secret world that I can retreat into, hide among the gathering dusk under the trees. My drawings are cool evenings after a hot day or a quiet place in the afternoon, or the promise of a new day at sunrise. I love the linear quality of trees, arranging them in just that way where each tree is felt and expands into the space I've given it. The branches stretch themselves out into the negative space, activating and bringing life to the void. I love the details one thinks one sees, or is it just a shadow? To be lost in my drawings, yet at home. So many people have said they are reminded of a woods of their childhood, or a special place in their past, that is because my landscapes are landscapes of the heart. Internal moments of quiet or promise on paper, inviting you, the viewer to become lost, engaged, in the space.
